The Update

There's no easy way for me to explain my absence and I wish I could go on writing about all the positive things in my life. But what life? What positive things? The events of the last six months have turned my optimism on it's head slowly but almost relentlessly, in the last three months anyway. Honestly, I'm a wreck.

Finding Yourself

When you lose something, or when something big in your life changes, you can end up losing yourself. It's not as hard to do as some of us may like. But you sometimes have to lose yourself to find yourself and the good things can come from the bad things. It's important to remember that whatever it is that's holding you back, YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT.

Five Tips For 'Rainy Day' Photography

Natural lighting is a camera's best friend (uuuusually) so finding those perfect conditions or that perfect time of day to take your photos is definitely something I recommend thinking about. I love 'rainy days'; the overcast of cloud diffuses the light, resulting in less glare and less harsh lighting - it gives a softer effect.

A Fresh Start.

When you share a part of your life online, no matter how small it is, there are some things you don't feel comfortable sharing and you can easily begin to lose track of where you drew that line. I haven't posted on my blog since the 9th of July. That's almost 3 months. I logged on to blogger a few minutes ago to see no page views; it's almost like my blog has dropped off the face of the earth. It probably has. 10 days ago, I sat down to write a post entitled "The Monthly Roundup: July-August 2015 // Update" with the intention of finishing it before the start of September so I could get back into doing something I love. I never finished it. I told myself I was being lazy or I just couldn't find the time but even on days when I DID have time and I may have even had the motivation and desire to continue to write the post, I just didn't. The month of July was a tough one for me, I did something scary which turned out to be something incredible. The lead up to it was tough and when it was over, I felt liberated. My original plan was to post my Monthly Roundup, as usual, at the end of that month but there was something holding me back. I decided that I wasn't ready to share my photos from that month online. Sure, there were some I could have shared but I just didn't feel right writing a Monthly Roundup and not including the main thing I did that month.

I've decided that the way forward for me is to start a fresh. I know I've missed Monthly Roundups but sometimes, the timing just isn't right. I'd like to continue posting on my blog but I'd like to do so whilst staying behind that line.

The Monthly Roundup: June 2015

Nine days late - *gulp*
I feel like variations of that line may become a permanent instalment in my monthly roundups - I just can't seem to manage my time effectively! Any tips?

Aaaaanyway, I hope you all had a lovely June and are having a great July, here are TWO (yeah, I know) photos I took:

The Monthly Roundup: May 2015

Six days late - *gulp*

Aaaanyway, I hope you all had a lovely May. Some of you may notice that I have significantly less photos this month and for the following reason: I believe in sharing the things you love and the things you really connect with and photography is a somewhat complex yet beautiful way to show these things. When I went through my photos this month, I chose the ones I connected with. I always do, to an extent but there were the ones I felt more connection to. Tell me in the comments if you connected with any of these like I did or in a completely different way. Tell me your thoughts, I'd love to hear them!

Learning to "Run With It"

I'm awful at thinking of ideas for blog posts, I'm not particularly opinionated and sometimes the inspiration just doesn't seem to be there. Except it is. There's always inspiration, wherever you look. All you've got to do is learn to "run with it", a task easier said than done.

I can write for a good half hour when my mind is buzzing, it's one of the things I do to clear my head. And even though what I've written is never particularly inspiring, it was still inspired by something. It was inspired by the millions of thoughts bouncing around in my head. And then I "run with them".

That's what I'm doing now, I don't care that I'm writing this on my phone at 22:31 at night! That doesn't matter right now because I'm inspired. I think one of the biggest writer's block problems people encounter is "lack of inspiration" but I know it's there. One of the things that stops us, even if we decide to "run with" an idea is overthinking. When I'm "running with" an idea that I'm unsure about, I'll write it in the notes on my phone to myself. If I like what I've written, I'll transfer it to blogger and tweak the odd word. What if I don't? It's just another note. It's just a few words. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

How do you find inspiration?

The Fast Drying Nail Polish That Actually Dries Pretty Fast

I can never be bothered to wait for my nails to dry so the idea of a fast drying nail polish has always appealed to me but I've never found one which actually lives up to its name. Until now.

I'd heard raving reviews about this new line of nail polish by Barry M and decided I'd jump on the bandwagon and try one out for myself. I love the pastel shades, perfect for spring and summer and decided to pick up this beautiful minty duck egg blue, "Road Rage". It's very similar to Essie's "Mint Candy Apple" I've applied this polish twice in a row now (yeah, I reapplied!) and I've fast fallen in love with it. I think it really compliments my skin tone and would look lovely on anyone. I find that it does however require at least two coats as it is a fairly thin formula but I do not see this as too big of a problem. In the 15 minutes (or less) this polish took to dry, I managed to complete my entire skin care routine and more with no smudges! (I was being pretty careful but I always find that when it comes to nail polish, you can never be too careful). I then proceeded to change which I thought was sure to bring about a smudge or two but (again, being careful) my nails were in prefect condition by the end.

I find the lasting power on this is pretty good aswell and it dries with a nice shine. My one piece of advice would be to work quickly - It dries so fast the polish can get a little lumpy if you're a perfectionist like myself. The first coat will not be perfect!

Have you tried the Barry M speedy quick dry range? What do you think of them?

Changing My Blog Name

Back in July when I first started my blog, I found choosing the perfect blog name to be very difficult, I didn't like anything I came up with as much as the idea of using my own name. It's timeless and somehow more elegant and sophisticated, I've always thought that Waffling Waffles is too messy and childlike. I went with it at the time because it was the best of a bad bunch. I think it may be time for change but there are a few things holding me back. My first step is knowing your opinion.

What do you think?
Leave a comment at the end of this post to let me know.

UPDATE: I decided to change my blog name to Naomi Katharine ( on Tuesday 14th April
