A Year In Photos

Earlier this week, I came across a notebook, hidden away in my drawer. I discovered my "bucket list" and one of the things in it was to take a photo a day for a year. As it is nearing the start of 2015, I thought that I'd give it a go!

As you will most likely know, I blog anonymously. I'm not going to go into detail on it - that's a post for another day! Anyway, this gives me a slight problem in that I can almost garuntee that I will take at least one photo with a friend or family member or something personal in it. However, I would still like to share some of these photos with you and I know that some of you would love to see them. Based on this, I have decided that I'm going to do a "monthly roundup" and only include my favourite shots from the month to ensure that any of you who may want to see my attempt can do so.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and if you're going to give it a go! I'm really excited and I think that it's going to be a lot of fun and really nice to look back on in years to come!

Top 5 Christmas Nail Polishes

I know that I am not alone when I say that I love christmas! Another thing I know that I'm not alone in loving is nail polish! So I thought I'd combine the two and make a list of my top 5 nail polishes for the Christmas period: (not in order, I couldn't possibly decide!)

My first nail polish is by OPI and it's in the shade "red dazzle". Despite my saying that I can't put these in an order, this is probably my favourite for Christmas. The colour is a really true red and the glitter gives it a really lovely winter feel. I'll defiantly be wearing this one on Christmas day!

Over the Christmas period, I find it very difficult to resist using a glitter top coat over EVERY nail polish I wear. One of my favourites is Essie "sparkle on top". It honestly looks like snow and I'm addicted!

Next I have a nail polish that's not specifically christmassy and can definitely be worn all year round. It's the Rimmel 60 second nail polish in "503 mind the gap, Victoria". I think this nail polish under a white glitter top coat such as Essie "sparkle on top" gives a really pretty snow effect. Super easy and a little more subtle than a bright red!

Another glitter polish? I think so! This one is from Essence and it's in the shade "21 get the party started". I'd never tried anything from Essence before and the colour of this polish made me very excited! It can look very festive but I think you could also wear this all year round!

Finally I have Makeup Revolution's nail polish in "Heaven's Above 05". This nail polish cost me £1! I wrote a blog post (here) a while back about MUA nail polish (also £1) but one thing I forgot to mention was the size of the bottle. This one, however, is full size! Bargain! It's a really pretty, autumnal berry colour.

Looking Up

At the beginning of Autumn, I begun to notice all the pretty orange trees, loosing their leaves to the cold winds. I'd begun to look up at the sky more frequently and it gave me a strange feeling of happiness when I did so.

If somebody were to ask you what direction is positive, you would probably say up. I've always believed that this is to do with progress, a positive thing. When you progress, you move up slightly in the world. I began to feel intreigued by the beautiful sky above me and would stop to take photos with the beautiful branches, using my camera to form shillouettes, contrasting with the bright blue sky. Whenever I did this, I felt a strange sense of relief and happiness.

However, as the weather was getting progressively colder, I began to forget about the feeling I would get from looking up, into the sky that was growing darker with each passing day. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I posted this photo last week:

It's not the best quality photo in the world but as I was posting it, it reminded me of the uplifting feeling I got during that early autumn time. The sky really is a beautiful, extraordinary thing and if you do one thing when you next go outside, look up into the sky and think. Think about all the positive things in your life. Think positive. Always be positive.

100 Bloglovin Followers!

I have just woken up on a beautiful Monday morning to 100 bloglovin followers! How did this happen?

I started my blog 4 months ago, on July 28th and I can't believe how far I've come. I never thought I'd get 10 followers and 100 is just amazing! I know I'm not the most reliable blogger in the world and this post is a prime example - I was due to publish on Friday!

I'd like to thank every single one of you (even if it is only one of you who actually reads this post) for your amazing support and lovely comments! It honestly means so much to me.

My Aeroplane Essential: Mentos

I've been wanting to write this post ever since I first started my blog - it's just a quick flying tip for all you travel lovers! ;)

Whenever I'm flying, I ALWAYS bring mentos (or buy them at the airport in a panic!). This is simply because, when taking off, my ears like to pop like crazy (I know many others experience the same problem) and sometimes I want something chewy and sometimes I want something like a hard boiled sweet to suck. Mentos are the only thing that I can do both with. I also like that they come in a tube because it's compact, doesn't rustle (good for the cinema too!) and they're easy to share with friends. They taste great, solve my ear popping problems and you can get a 4 pack for £1 in primark!

I once had a mini freak out on an areoplane because I couldn't find the mentos in my bag and we were (very slowly) moving! Disaster! ;D

The Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash

I used to use my fingers to "comb" conditioner through my hair in the shower and it always took me FOREVER! As the days, weeks and years went on, I gradually grew tired of dragging my fingers through my knotty hair every time I washed it. That is when I decided to bring my original Tangle Teezer along for the tedious exercise - it wasn't much better. The problem I found when I used the original Tangle Teezer is that it's bristles weren't firm enough to glide through my hair and when I came to use the brush with dry hair, the water would have remained inside the brush making it drip when I brushed my hair. I received the Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash as a gift and I must say I had my doubts!

This brush is designed for use with wet hair and has a hollow design so it doesn't hold water. One of the first things I noticed when I used this Tangle Teezer was how firm the bristles were. It worked amazingly well when I used it in the shower and I found my relatively thick hair to be knot free! I also use this brush when I get out the shower to comb through and part my hair and it worked just as well as it had in the shower. Another great thing about this brush is that it doesn't tug on your hair as much as other brushes making it a lot better for your hair.

I have loved every Tangle Teezer I have used and this one was no exception! It has made my shower time considerably shorter and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Have you tried the Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash?

The Autumn Tag

I haven't been tagged by anyone to do this but I love autumn and wanted to share this with you! :) I know it's feeling more like winter at the moment but I still consider it to be autumn! Also, apologies for two similar posts in the same week, I thought I better post this sooner rather than later! Enjoy!

1. Okay, we're talking coffee's - What's your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks or another coffee shop?
Eeeeeek! I don't actually like coffee (or tea). I'm going to have to go with hot chocolate (boooringggg) sorry!

2. Accessories - What do you opt for. scarf, boots, gloves?
Hmmm... This is a tricky one... I'm going to go with boots because I really think they can completely transform an outfit to make it more autumny (okay, I'm pretty sure that's not a word)

3. Music - What's your favourite music to listen to during Autumn? My music taste doesn't really change from season to season - I'll just listen to whatever comes up when I shuffle my iPod!

4. Perfume - What's your favourite scent for this time of year?
I'm going to be honest here - I just grab whatever body spray I can find on my shelf! Is that just me? Let me know in the comments if you do that too! Today I'm wearing Impulse - Very Pink

5. Candles - What scents will you be burning this season?
Vanilla, vanilla, vanilla!! It's subtle and lovely - I save the stronger scents for winter!

6. What do you love most about Autumn?
Treeeeeeeeesss!! (I get very excited by pretty trees).

7. Favourite makeup look?
I always chose subtlety over something seasonal like a bold, berry lip (which I love on others just not myself). I did a post on my go to, easy eyemakeup and all I add to this look during autumn is a tinted lip balm like the Babylips "Cherry Me".

8. What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?
Warm jumpers, candles and tree photography! Ahhhh Autumn!

What's your favourite thing about Autumn?

Photos: London Loving

Yes, I went to London. Yes, I took my camera. Yes, I took photos of things that I didn't really need to take photos of. Okay, intro done, now onto the post!

So basically, I went to London and took some photos that I would like to share:

I love taking photos of trees in autumn - I see one and I find myself whipping my camera out to take a photo of it. I think I must have millions of photos of trees in my collection... I like how the buildings are positioned in this shot.

The Shard (oh, and another tree)

I went to see the beautiful poppies at the Tower of London. There is one poppy for everyone who died in World War One. I found this shocking as all I could see was seas of these beautiful red poppies. It really does make you think.

Another thing I love to take photos of is the sun and if it's between trees - even better!

Oh look, another tree! I like the bark on this one.

And the sun makes another appearance!

I couldn't walk across Tower Bridge and not take a photo, could I?

Another close up of the WWI Poppies,
I hope you enjoyed this post - I enjoyed taking the photos!

What do you find yourself taking a few too many photos of?

The Title Challenge

Back in the summer, when I was creating my blog, I made a list of posts I could do to kickstart my blog. During this process, I googled post ideas a fair few times and once upon a google, I discovered something called the "Title Challenge". I can't for the life of me remember where I found this but it has been very useful when I'm sitting at my desk thinking: what do I write?!

This really is as simple as it sounds: all you do is scroll through your bloglovin feed (or just have a flick through your favourite blogs) until you find something that catches your eye. Now DON'T OPEN THE POST! Look at the title and nothing else. Enter this into your own blog post and start writing! It really is that simple!

Extra tip: change the title of your post after you've written it and no one will ever know! Shhh!!

Are you going to try the title challenge?

Lighting the Candles

I love candles - they are so relaxing and now it's officially October, I thought I'd get myself into the Autumn mood. I decided to light the candle that has been on my desk for MONTHS! I'm not a candles in summer kind of person but I love working to the smell of vanilla during autumn and winter! I think I'm going to need some more matches...

What candles to you like burning in autumn and winter?

And the trainers resurface...

I remember when I set that horrible goal. I decided I would go running every week and get fit buuuttt it did not happen that way. I started off well, clearing a mile in under 15 minutes. And then, I slacked. I could never stay motivated enough to pick up the trainers and the iPod for 15-30 minutes of pure torture for me. Now I am fully aware that to some of you, this will look like a little and to some, a lot - Everybody is different.

Now this leads me on to training with friends. I have a friend who's a fairly committed runner and when I told her I was starting running, she said: "we should go running together!". I thought this was a great way to stay motivated and on track but because she was a more experienced runner, I had to push myself a little too hard to keep up. My number one rule for running is not to go too fast. If you can run 8 miles an hour solidly for 40 minutes, great! Good on you but if I ran at that speed, I would most likely collapse after the first 30 seconds! Running is about finding a pace you're comfortable with and keeping at it. My advice would be to start slow! You can always speed up! ;)

Even though it pains me to do so, I must admit that my trainers have remained in a corner gathering dust for a while. However, hope is not all lost! I've recently been attending "boot camp" which is a really great group with a trainer that allows you to go at your own speed. I've found that training in a larger group is definitely the way for me as you can almost guarantee there will be somebody else of your standard there. I also think it makes keeping an even pace easier which I find to be very beneficial!

Do you do anything fitness related?
If so, what technique works for you?

Easy on the Eye

I'm not one to spend hours on my makeup on a day to day basis. I like to keep it simple. This means that I can do my makeup in a rush which happened a LOT more than I'd like to admit! My easy, go-to eye makeup consists of three products. Yes, THREE. This is the eye makeup I've been wearing lately:

First I use the Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl waterproof eyeliner on both my waterline AND my tight line (the upper waterline). I find that this makes such a HUGE difference to my eye look and lining the tight line (a step many people may be tempted to miss) is very subtle but makes your lash line look AMAZING! Contrast is so important to have and I love kohl eyeliner as I think it's one of the quickest and easyist (if a little scary) things you can do that makes the biggest difference. I love this eyeliner- it's very black and stays in place pretty much all day but it would not make much of a difference to me if I used another eyeliner from another brand. They're not too different.

I then apply the Soap & Glory eyeshadow in the shade "Pink T" from the Lid Stuff palette all over my lid with the Real Techniques shading brush to even out the colour of my lid. If I'm in a really tight squeeze, I'll skip this step.

Finally, I apply Rimmel's Extra Super Lash mascara. I picked this mascara up a while ago and didn't really like it - I would usually go for a plastic wand over one like this but after leaving the mascara for a few months (awful, I know), I wouldn't say that I love it but I certainly like it! It makes my lashes look long and fairly volumous. It's not waterproof which I'm not so keen on but it is super easy to remove (see, I told you this look was easy!) which is great as I'm a tad lazy at removing makeup and tend to just use wipes.

What products do you use in a rush?

The Perception Trilogy by Lee Strauss

A few months ago, I stumbled across a book called "Perception" by Lee Strauss. It was free (is now £1.64) on the Kindle store so I decided to download it and give it a whirl. I read it on holiday and soon became hooked - I read all of the three books during the week!

This book had not been recomended to me or anything and I really enjoyed reading a book that I had no expectations for. It almost gave me a sence of freedom and I felt as if I was allowed to despise this book, if I really wanted.

I found this book to be very thought provoking with a bit of everything in it. It made me think literally NON STOP about the future and equality. All I wanted to do was read more - I couldn't get it out of my head! I was thinking about it weeks after I had finished the books. Can you tell I'm obsessed?

This trilogy had me gripped for all of the three books which does not happen very often with a series. It was definately an enjoyable, gripping and thought provoking story but still a light read and I believe that Lee Strauss should have a lot more recognition for her amazing work.

One thing I would say is that the first book was fairly slow to get going but as Zoe's character grew, it became more enjoyable.

Have you read Perception?

My Handbag Essentials

When I'm going out for the day, there are some things that I simple must have in my handbag! here are my handbag essentials:

Oyster Card
I always take my Oyster card with me when I leave the house because you never know when you're going to need to take the train or catch a bus and an Oyster card is a great way to do it cheaper! My oyster card lives in my pass case from Jack Wills - I've had it for years and since bought similar cases for my friends. You can also always get very lovely ones in Paperchase (this one is my favourite) if Jack Wills doesn't float your boat!

iPod and Headphones
I hardly ever leave the house without my iPod - It's unbelievably light and holds my 1,206 songs (!) perfectly. I whip out my headphones on a very regular basis!

Headphone Splitter
I've used my Tiger Headphone splitter too many times to count! It's so handy when you're with a friend, wanting to listen to music!

Mint tictacs
These are great when you want to refresh your breath. I picked up some mini boxes at the airport and I am in love with them! they're so sweet!

Juice Cube
The Juice Cube is perfect for when you forget to charge your phone or need an on the go battery top up. Just plug in your phone and you're good to go!

Notepad and Pen
We all have those lightbulb moments!

Tangle Teaser Compact Styler
I LOVE the Tangle Teaser! It is the best hairbrush I have ever used (Yes, I'm getting excited about a hair brush) and although I much prefer the original, the Compact Styler is a definite handbag staple! Unfortunately, my metalic pink one was limited edition last year and you can no longer get that exact colour.

Body Shop Born Lippy in Raspberry
I have loved everything I've tried from The Body Shop and this lip balm is no exception. It has a slight tint and is very glossy, perfect for "mirrorless" makeup and it goes perfectly over a lipstick or on It's own. It also smells AMAZING!

I got my purse in the Cath Kidston sale a while ago and it is the perfect size for notes, coins, loyalty cards, gift cards and debit/credit cards! I've even kept jewellery, lip balm and a mini Ikea pencil in here on occasion! This is the closest design I could find to mine.

I am OBSESSED with mentos.

Hairbands and Bobby Pins
I don't think these need an explanation. If you have long hair, you'll understand why I always take hairbands and bobby pins with me, wherever I go.

What are your handbag essentials?

MUA Nail Polish

Earlier this year, I popped into Superdrug in search of a nail polish and came out with one of these bad boys from MUA (MakeUp Academy).  I picked up the colour "Bright Coral" (first on the left) for a bargain of £1!

MUA was always one of those stands that I didn't pay much attention to until I saw this little bottle of nail polish and thought hmmmm... what's that? I picked up the bottle and saw the price! I couldn't believe my eyes! £1 for a bottle of nail polish! I purchased "Bright Coral" to test out the brand and I was very impressed!

I painted my nails with this beautiful colour as soon as I got home. I expected very little from a £1 nail polish and one of the first things I noticed was how thin the colour was when I initially applied it. However, I did not find this to be a problem for long! After a slightly more generous amount of product was applied to my nail, I found that the colour became more opaque. The next thing I noticed, to my delight, was how bright the colour was! There's definitely a reason for the name!

After my success with "Bright Coral" I thought it was time to venture into other shades. I looked on the MUA website and ordered "Frozen Yoghurt", "Sweet Peach" and "Ameretto Crush". Since then I have purchased the "Clear Top Coat" and "Leapfrog". I think all of these shades are bright and cheerful, perfect for summer!

Nail Polishes from left to right: "Bright Coral",  "Frozen Yoghurt", "Sweet Peach", "Leapfrog", "Ameretto Crush" and "Top Clear Coat"

I think the MUA nail polishes are perfect if you're new to nail polish and want to try out a wide verity of colours. However, I also love these nail polishes myself and would recommend them to anybody as they are very good value for money and although they are a bit streaky, they are fairly similar to other, slightly more expensive nail polishes I own.
